Jokkmokk Winter Market | Lapland Sami Tribe | Sami Market | Reindeer Caravan | Jokkmokk Church | Bob Jokkmokk is a natural meeting place for Sámi people from all over Sápmi. Since 1605 – for more than four hundred years – the colourful Jokkmokk market has been celebrated annually, starting on the first Thursday in February. This warm celebration features cultural activities and amazing culinary experiences right in the coldest midwinter weather. The market attracts tens of thousands of international visitors. You won’t be able to find these genuine food experiences anywhere else. The town is a centre for Sámi culture, with unique knowledge about the natural resources of the region: game meat, featuring reindeer is its biggest star, berries, herbs and exclusive fish. The 419th Jokkmokk market is over, and all look back at a market that started with strong winds, then turned into a market with beautiful weather – and ended with lots of beautiful memories. Welcome to the 420th Jokkmokk market, February 6th to 8th 2025 Jokkmokk’s Market has a long history and is considered to have a four hundred-year unbroken tradition. Permanent marketplaces near the Sámi’s winter settlements were established by the Swedish crown at the beginning of the 17th century in all the Sámi Lappish territories on both sides of the Gulf of Bothnia. The purpose was to strengthen the state’s control of the population in the north as well as to collect taxes, hold legal court and spread the Word of God. Planning a market in the Lappish territories during the coldest time of the year had several advantages. The Sámi were gathered in their winter settlements in the forest area with winter grazing for their reindeer and the frozen waterways constituted magnificent roads for the merchants, state officials and men of the church. #travel #youtube #travelvlog #youtuber #youtubevideo #youtubechannel #youtubevideos #youtubers #youtubeindia #youtubeviralvideo #traveling #travelling #travelblogger #travelphotography #tourist #tourism #touristplace #touristattraction #touristspots #touring #tourguide #lapland #sweeden #sweden #wintermarket #sami #bengalivlog #bengalivlogger Our travel February 2020.
