The Galería del Pilar in Tres Minas. Clip from the video:    • TRES MINAS. La gran mina romana de oro a c...   Tres Minas. The great Roman open-pit gold mine The Roman mining complex of Tresminas is located 19 km east of the Portuguese town of Vila Pouca de Aguiar, in the north of the country. These gold mines were exploited by the Romans from the reign of Augustus until the time of Septimius Severus, in the second half of the 2nd century AD. The gold extracted here was under direct state administration. The Trasminas mining complex consists primarily of open-pit mines, although underground mine galleries (Lagoínhos) have been identified. There are two large tunnels, known as Covas and Ribeirinha: the former is 480 m long, 80 m wide, and 60 m high, and the latter is 350 m long, 110 m wide, and 100 m high. Several tunnels have been found in Covas, including the Alargamentos, Pilar, and Tasugo tunnels. The Bat Tunnel is known in Ribeirinha.
