BOSNIA: BOSNIAN SERB LEADER RADOVAN KARADZIC WARNING

(18 Apr 1995) Eng/Serbo-Croat/Nat Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has announced his army will launch a counter-offensive which he claimed would finally defeat the Muslim side. Karadzic also warned the international community to stop supporting the Muslims, or the war would continue indefinitely. The Bosnian Serb leader was speaking while visiting troops on the frontline with his military commander, General Ratko Mladic. Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic Monday visited his army on the Vlasic frontline in central Bosnia along with General Ratko Mladic. General Mormirtalic Talic, commander of the 1st Krajina Corps, saluted him on his arrival and gave him a report on the Vlasic region. Karadzic had just come from a session of the self-proclaimed Bosnian Serb parliament, which was held behind closed doors and ended after 26 hours at dawn on Monday. In a show of unity, Karadzic inspected the troops with the Bosnian Serb army commander. Photographs were on display in a tribute to soldiers killed in the war. The Bosnian Serb leadership has been in disarray after recent Bosnian government military successes. But Karadzic said the military campaign was going well and announced the army would launch a counter-offensive to finally defeat the Muslim enemies. SOUNDBITE: "Well more or less okay. The Muslims had some initial successes, very small successes. We had too many casualties, but we are handling the situation and it is going to be very, very good" SUPER CAPTION: Radovan Karadzic - Bosnian Serb leader The Bosnian Serb army commander said his troops would make a comeback. SOUNDBITE: (In Serbo-Croat) "The Muslims have violated the agreement on the cessation of hostilities, they have some minor successes in this area, but we will take back the lost territories." SUPER CAPTION: General Ratko Mladic - Bosnian Serb military commander Karadzic warned the international community to stop continuing to support the Muslim side. SOUNDBITE: "Yes we are handling the.. situation also. What I would like to say is if Muslims want a military outcome then it's going to be military outcome, and there will not be any concession concerning territory. If they wanted political outcome then we have been ready to negotiate, but if they want to fight to the end then it's going to be fight to the end of the Muslim army. We warn the international community to stop supporting Muslim side because this is the way to prolong this war" SUPER CAPTION: Radovan Karadzic - Bosnian Serb leader As the fighting continues around Mount Vlasic, France Tuesday demanded an urgent meeting of the U-N Security Council and other steps to improve security for peacekeepers in the former Yugoslavia. The move follows the killing of two more French peacekeepers in Sarajevo last week.
