Your Brain Has a Second Life.

Your brain has a second life. Your phone is killing it. It only activates when you stop. And right now you are carrying something in your pocket that makes sure it never does. In 2001 a neuroscientist named Marcus Raichle discovered that the brain's most powerful system doesn't run when you're focused. It runs when you're doing nothing. His colleagues spent years trying to prove him wrong. They couldn't. This video is about what that network does. Why the Greeks built their entire educational philosophy around protecting it. Why medieval monks developed 150 hand signs just to avoid breaking their silence. Why Newton, Darwin and Archimedes did their greatest work the moment they stopped trying. And why a group of people in Virginia in 2014 chose to give themselves an electric shock rather than sit quietly with their own thoughts for fifteen minutes. Boredom wasn't the problem. It was a signal. And every time you reach for your phone the moment it arrives — you're not just avoiding discomfort. You're avoiding the question it was trying to ask. What would actually make this life feel like enough? ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ SOURCES ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Raichle et al. (2001). A default mode of brain function.
