The Mark Hofmann Bombings: Hofmann accepts plea bargain, the public fallout against the prosecution

After nearly a year of claiming his innocence and refusing to accept a plea deal, Mark Hofmann pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder and two counts of communication fraud. Part of the deal was that Hofmann was to be interviewed by investigators about the murders of Steven Christensen and Kathleen Sheets and his involvement in forging nearly 28 historical documents. While the prosecution celebrated the win, thinking Hofmann would only be convicted for one murder, the public and police investigators felt that Hofmann was getting a light sentence and wasn’t telling the truth to authorities like he promised he would.
