Citroën ID 19, 1968

This ID 19 P, models with twin headlights from model year 1968 onwards are internally designated with the suffix "P", was registered in France on August 16, 1968. The car was ordered from the factory with the extras cornering lights, power steering, and an additional interior fan on the passenger side. The body color chosen was blanc carrare AC 144 (Carrara marble), a very slightly greenish white. The plastic roof on ID models at that time was already tinted white-gray, and the interior was ordered in rouge. In 2007, the car, which had remained completely original until then, was imported to Germany by Falk Lehmann in Wiesloch, one of the most renowned DS specialists, and sold to an American GI in Heidelberg. In 2019, an independent vehicle appraiser from the Siegerland region bought the car. At that time, the ID had a mileage of 48,964 kilometers. The appraiser registered the still very well-preserved and original vehicle and drove it until 2021, reaching a mileage of 49,313 km, as can be verified from the TÜV (German vehicle inspection) reports. The automotive appraiser and Citroën enthusiast had already restored several Citroëns for himself, and in 2021 he set about completely disassembling and rebuilding the car. As an automotive engineer, this presented no difficulties for him; rather, he found it a pleasure to restore this car to its absolute best in his retirement. Photos of this work are available, as well as of the vehicle's condition before the restoration. It turned out that all the sheet metal was free of corrosion damage, and therefore no welding was necessary. Although the engine had good compression and functioned perfectly, it was also opened. Essentially, however, the engine was only cleaned, fitted with a new timing chain, a rebuilt oil pump, and new gaskets. The gearbox was also opened, inspected, reassembled, and resealed. When the engine was reinstalled, a new clutch and engine mounts were, of course, fitted. The inboard brake discs didn't need replacing, and these are the original brake discs – further clear evidence of the low mileage. A new steering gear was installed, and the entire hydraulic system was overhauled. Even the car's original screws were reused, albeit cleaned and re-galvanized. Many other small parts were also re-galvanized. Only three things were not completely restored to their original condition. The original white-gray tinted plastic roof was painted, stainless steel lenses were fitted instead of plastic ones for the rear turn signals, and modern retractable seat belts were installed for the front seats. The appraiser has just bought a smaller house for himself and his wife as a retirement home and can now only garage three of his classic cars there. Since we've known him for a good two years, he entrusted us with this absolutely fantastically preserved and even more fantastically restored ID for sale. The current mileage is 52,709 kilometers, meaning that 3,396 kilometers have been driven since the restoration was completed in 2024. Any necessary follow-up work has therefore already been completed. The engine starts instantly, and the Citroën drives as perfectly as it possibly can. A truly ingenious ID – Idée Géniale.
