DOÑANA Natural and National Park | The LONGEST BEACH in SPAIN | HERDS OF DEER | MOBILE sand DUNES
TIPS FOR YOUR STAY The best time to visit Doñana is from autumn to spring, when temperatures are milder and the weather is enjoyable. Keep in mind that Doñana is a wetland reserve, which means that during the summer, everything dries up with a low chance to spot wild animals around. The best time of the year is actually winter and early spring when marshlands and lagoons are at their fullest (or at least they should be, everything depends on the rainy season…) and there is a higher chance to spot a lot of wild animals and migratory birds. It's also the time of year when the region has the best lighting for photography. A powerful camera and binoculars are highly recommended. The clips and pictures in this video do not do justice to the beauty of the park and the experience of being there to see things with your own eyes. Southern Spain can have several sunny days even in winter, but keep in mind that you may encounter some rainy days. I visited Doñana in the last two weeks of December, and the weather was great, but the guide told us that during the previous two weeks, there was heavy rain flooding some areas. Just take this into account when you book your holidays; don’t take the sun for granted, and always check the weather forecast before you book outdoor activities. You'll find the website of the company I booked the tour with in the comments section. However, there are many guided tours offered by locals, and you might want to compare prices and the type of service they offer. Just google "visitas Doñana" or "visitas guiadas Doñana," and you'll find many websites offering guided tours, with many even providing English language pages. In the eventuality that you don't see wild animals, please don't blame the guides! Wild animal behavior is unpredictable, and there is no turn-on-turn-off button. I booked the north section and the south section tours on two separate afternoons, and we were very lucky to see herds of deer. The guide told us that during the morning tours, they weren't able to see a single trace of life. Doñana is home to the Iberian Lynx, which is considered an endangered species. Spotting it by chance wandering freely is highly improbable, as it's a shy animal that willingly avoids human presence. There are special tours that you have to book separately at the Acebuche visitors center. Remember that inside the National Park, hunting, fishing, or the collection of any vegetation is forbidden. If you are caught doing this, you'll be fined memorably (and in the most serious cases, it is punished by law). Needless to say, if you are a beach person, summer is your season. During summer, hotels there might be quite expensive. You'll find in the comments section the best beaches not to be missed in the Huelva province. A BIG thank you to the guides who were awesome, super funny, and explained lots of things; they really do their job with passion. Pilgrimage The pilgrimage of El Rocío takes place on varying dates each year, determined by the religious calendar. It occurs 50 days after Holy Week and is renowned as the largest pilgrimage in Spain, drawing attention from across Europe. If you're not keen on participating, it's best to steer clear of the area during these times, as the event can be quite noisy and chaotic, potentially impacting your visit. ___________________________________________ THE VIDEO ABOUT AYAMONTE WON'T BE UPLOADED ANYMORE.
