It is regularly used when a person is undergoing a difficult time, but where does the meaning of fitnah originally come from? Allah uses the word fitnah in many places in the Quran; including when he describes a person's wealth, spouse and children to be a fitnah. Rasulullah ﷺ has also foretold that a person will experience many fittan (plural of fitnah) throughout their life, where the subsequent ones will be greater than the previous ones.
