Will I sell my car for my dream Leica? [ M11-D review ]

The Leica M11-D costs $10,000 and has no screen. Not in 2005 — in 2025. No LCD, no menu navigation, no red dot on the front. Just a shutter, a rangefinder, and 60 megapixels of sensor that you access entirely through your phone. As someone who shoots film almost exclusively, I wanted to find out if this camera could actually make digital feel worth it — and whether I'd sell my car to own one. I shot the M11-D across two locations in Los Angeles — an evening walk through a neighborhood full of classic cars and architecture, and a day trip to Lancaster shooting abandoned buildings — running a Voigtlander 35mm Color Skopar, a 50mm Light Lens Lab, and an older LTM 35mm. The no-screen experience turns out to be genuinely liberating for a film shooter. No chimping, no distraction, no temptation to review every frame. It shoots exactly like an M6 with the added luxury of knowing you're not burning through a $25 roll every time you miss focus. The 60 megapixel files are stunning and the ability to crop while retaining resolution is something film can't match at this price point. The camera is also lighter than an M6 which nobody warned me about. The downsides are real though — 60MP files chug even on an M2 Max, the small function button on top is genuinely frustrating to use, and the price is equivalent to nearly ten years of film for most shooters. Would I sell my car for it? I need my car.
