Early waking in babies can feel confusing, especially when bedtime, naps, and routines seem to be in place. In this video, Lyndsey explains why babies wake early, what counts as a true early wake, and how baby sleep biology, sleep timing, daytime sleep, chronotype, and the early morning environment can all play a role. A 5am or 6am wake-up does not always mean something is wrong. Sometimes early waking happens because a baby has completed their overnight sleep, bedtime is too early for their current sleep needs, daytime sleep is too high, or light, temperature, noise, or discomfort is making sleep harder in the early morning hours.
