CHRISTMAS SERMON 2024 JESUS THE SON OF DAVID BORN IN BETHELEHAM 2 Samuel 7:1- 12 fulfilled in Matthew 1:1-17, RUTH 4:13-17 When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom. He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever (2 Samuel 7:12-13). Crowd on Palm Sunday: Matt.21:9 3. Why Jesus is called “The Son of David” 1. His royal origin: Matthew begins by calling Jesus the son of David, indicating his royal origin, Both Joseph (Solomon) and Mary (Nathan) are from David’s decedents. 2. Jesus is The Lord of David: The son is never greater than the father: if Jesus was David's son, He could not be greater than David. But David himself, under the guidance of the Holy Ghost, calls his son his Lord. Psalm 110 3. Israelite: Genesis 12, by being the son of Abraham, indicating that he was an Israelite and fulfilment of the promises God made to Abraham. Matt. 1:1 4. Messianic Title: 2 Samuel 7:12-16, Isaiah 11:1-3. ``Son of David'' is a messianic title. When a particular person called him by that title, they were acknowledging Jesus as the Messiah, 5.
