The Ultimate Guide to the Nimzowitsch Defense (Including the Declined Variation)
In this ultimate guide to the Nimzowitsch defense, you'll find the essential ideas that helped me ruin white plans and get positions I feel comfortable with. That includes the opening basics, tricks, traps, strategic ideas, and fundamental principles in the Nimzowitsch middle-game play. Numerous players, even strong ones, found themselves in losing positions when I played the Nimzowitsch defense against them, including a 2672 ELO GM (the link to this video down below) The Nimzowitsch defense (..Nc6) is a less recognized yet super-effective response to e4. The main idea in this opening is provoking white to play d4 to control the center and then maneuver your knight to the kingside and pressure on white's king. This setup provides you with various exciting counter-attacks against white. The approach in this video is a bit different from other approaches to the Nimzowitsch defense: ✅Instead of covering the classical d5 line or the tedious d6-Nf6-g6 setup (Williams variation), I recommend the Kennedy Linkpsringer variation (2. ...e5). I also explain two brutal responses to the widespread declined variations - Nf3 in the third move of the Kennedy line (transposed into the Scotch game) and Nf3 in the second move of the main line. ✅I incorporate specific sidelines of the opening I find successful, from the Ne7 approach (instead of Nf6) within the Linkspringer variation to the Colorado gambit and my own Gambit against the Scotch game. ✅I back up the lines and variations I suggest in the video with an in-depth analysis of my online games at chess.com, so you can better understand the key ideas and principles of the Nimzowitsch defense. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 📖Chapters 0:00 - Intro 01:40 - The Kennedy Line 11:00 - Kennedy, Linkspringer Variation 23:07 - My Games with the Linkspringer Variation 34:40 - Declined Variation 1: My Counter-Scotch Gambit 42:22 - Declined Variation 2: The Brutal Colorado Gambit 49:22 - My Practical Game Using the Colorado Gambit 53:04 - Final Words on the Nimzowitsch defense I hope you enjoy the video and get the most out of it.
