Sivas Municipal Police teams continue their inspections to prevent businesses from encroaching on sidewalks used by citizens. Teams, accompanied by Municipal Police Chief Nuri Çayır, conducted inspections on Atatürk Street and warned business owners who were obstructing pedestrians. The teams also filed reports against businesses that ignored the warnings and continued to occupy the area. Police Chief Nuri Çayır stated that sidewalks are designated pedestrian paths for safe pedestrian walking in traffic-rich areas, saying, “There are even businesses that occupy a larger area on the sidewalks than their own businesses. We have tradespeople who increase their occupancy, especially on market days, under the guise of discounts. We call on all our tradespeople to put an end to this disorder, this injustice, and the sidewalk occupations that turn city life into a strangeness. We want Sivas to achieve a healthy, quality city life that prioritizes people, facilitates the lives of citizens, and offers social and cultural enriching opportunities. We will continue to work with determination, in a solution-oriented and fair manner, to achieve this.” 1 MILLION LIRA FINE FOR OCCUPIED SHOPKEEPERS Çayır, urging shopkeepers to be vigilant against sidewalk occupations, said, “Because Sivas belongs to all of us, and together we will maintain order in this city with our vision of a modern and model city. To instill this awareness, we have issued sufficient warnings for nearly a year and have achieved partial corrections. However, despite these warnings, we have been forced to take legal action against shopkeepers who persisted in their occupation. Our Revenue Directorate has collected a total of 1,157,278,034 lira in fines from businesses that were subjected to violations. Our inspections will continue to increase for the peace and well-being of our people.”
