I visited three renowned bakeries and pastry shops in rainy Karasuma. Each shop had a completely different atmosphere, and I'm so glad I went, even on a rainy day! The beauty of the display cases, the gentle aroma of the malt bread, and the pastry salon surrounded by flowers filling the ceiling. I hope you can enjoy them slowly, whether it's for a late-night snack at home or a Setoka orange Danish for the next morning. 🥐 The three shops I visited this time: ① RUFF | Bakery cafe in a renovated townhouse In a townhouse with a white-based interior, the breads are displayed in the showcase like jewels. The Danish pastries and baked goods are of a high standard, and it's a popular eat-in shop. 📍 Takakura-dori Nishikikoji-sagaru, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City ② OUI. | Bakery specializing in malt upcycling A bakery run by a craft beer brewery, featuring bread made with malt. The shelves are all a uniform beige color, conveying a strong sense of the shop's concept. The unique lineup, including cherry blossom bean paste salt bread and curry bread, is also enjoyable. 📍 Kawaramachi area, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City ③ Royal 1382. (Royal) | Flower and Baked Goods Salon An extraordinary space surrounded by dried flowers that reach the ceiling. Enjoy an "experiential cafe" where you can choose a plate and decorate baked goods. A sister store of Ranunculus, the baked goods are of a high standard. 📍 Sakaimachi-dori Rokkaku, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto City ☔ Notes on a rainy day's Karasuma bread tour All three shops are within about a 5-minute walk of each other. Nishiki Market tends to get crowded on rainy days, so be careful. Even in the afternoon, there seems to be a good selection of bread.
