Cat 651B Low Engine Power Diagnostics...

I am diagnosing a low power condition on my customer's Cat 651B Single engine Scraper. This has been re-powered from a D346 8 Cyl turbo to a Cat C15 6 Cyl turbo engine. It became fairly obvious that this engine has a bad exhaust leak which is most likely the cause of the low turbo boost causing low power. On a computer controlled engine if it cannot create enough boost the ECU will not give it any more fuel than what it needs to match the amount of air going into the engine to keep it from generating too much smoke, heat etc...
