The 30-meter-wide fissures in the neighborhood where the fault line passes created a frightening scene, and a two-story building that slid for meters was reported to have "moderate damage." The Mereş earthquake created large fissures throughout the areas traversed by the fault line. The fault line, which extends from the Ekinözü district of Mereş to the İçmeler, Nergele, and Gözpınar neighborhoods of the district, as well as the Barış neighborhood of the Nurhak district and the Nurhak Mountains, created fissures 15 meters wide in some spots and approximately 30 meters wide in others. The fault line, which cuts wide fissures through the high hills of Ekinözü, created deep craters in the fields it passes through, especially in the Orta İçmeler neighborhood. As boulders tumbled down into neighborhoods, many of the structures built along the fault line slid for meters, and some houses were virtually buried within the fault line. The fissures created by the fault line and the houses that slid for meters were captured by the Mesopotamia Agency (MA).
