We left Mumbai at 9:30 AM in our Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift (1.5L NA Petrol, 6-speed Automatic) — smooth, comfortable, and perfect for long expressway stretches and ghat roads alike. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway, India's first six-lane expressway, is an engineering marvel cutting through the Sahyadri ranges. After the Khalapur Toll, we joined the Connecting Link — a scenic bypass that avoids Pune city chaos and connects directly toward Satara. We paused for a quick breakfast before the road started gaining elevation. At Katraj, the New Katraj Tunnel (over 2 km long) is one of Pune's most impressive infrastructure feats — watch for the dramatic shift from city to open plateau the moment you exit. Then comes the jewel of the drive: Khambatki Ghat. Winding roads, valley views, and cool winds make this one of Maharashtra's finest ghat experiences. After the Khed-Shivapur Toll, the route straightens toward Wai. WAI — THE CITY OF TEMPLES & GHATS Wai is not a tourist cliché. Known as "Dakshin Kashi" (the Varanasi of the South), this ancient town on the Krishna River banks is dotted with over 100 temples, ghats, and centuries-old wadas (heritage mansions).
