Original 1970s Montgomery & Modernized 2010s Kone Escalators at the UT Austin Education Building

Happy Escalator Monday with a Blast from the Past! Here are the nice escalators at the UT Austin Education Building, and here is a blend of both original and modernized: A 1973 Montgomery escalator with its distinctive sounding power units that sounded great, had a smooth ride, and well built equipment, but were modernized 40 years later by Kone, which run well and sound nice, but don't have the unique flavor that the original escalators had. However, even if the original escalators lasted 40 years, maybe the new ones will last another 40 years, and even if these are Kone escalators, they do run well, since they were the ones who bought out Montgomery Elevator. Interestingly, the Kone escalators are of high quality like that of Otis and ThyssenKrupp, and for this project, they did an honestly good job with the modernization with new equipment that resembles the older equipment. Original Specifications: General-Montgomery/Commercial Grade. Performance-24" width/5 HP. Distance-15 feet/2 floors & 45 feet/4 floors (combined) & 40 FPM. Year-Installed/1973. Aesthetics-Brushed stainless steel balustrades/newels/side panels, aluminum landing plates, & black handrails. Modernized Specifications: General-Kone/Commercial Grade. Performance-24" width/5 HP.
