「豊臣兄弟」に学ぶ日本史 織田信澄の最期 信長に謀反を起こした弟信勝の嫡男 明智光秀の娘との婚姻で本能寺の変後に信孝らに粛清される  History of JAPAN

Oda Nobusumi was the eldest son of Oda Nobukatsu (Nobuyuki), who was killed for plotting a rebellion against Nobunaga. Normally, he would have been executed, but Nobunaga spared his life and had him raised by Shibata Katsuie. Nobusumi grew into a young man excelling in both military and literary arts, and earned Nobunaga's deep trust. He later married the daughter of Akechi Mitsuhide and was appointed lord of Omi Castle in Omi Province, a strategic point for controlling Lake Biwa, and "commander of Osaka," following an elite path within the Oda family. However, the Honnoji Incident in June 1582 drastically changed his fate. When Mitsuhide launched his rebellion, Nobusumi was staying in Osaka, awaiting the conquest of Shikoku. As Osaka descended into chaos upon hearing of Nobunaga's death, the commander-in-chief, Oda Nobutaka, and his deputy, Niwa Nagahide, harbored strong suspicions that Mitsuhide's son-in-law, Nobusumi, must also be involved in the rebellion. While there was no actual evidence of Nobusumi's involvement in Mitsuhide's plot, in the extreme circumstances of war, blood relation alone was considered evidence of treason. Nobutaka and Nagahide employed a despicable tactic to eliminate the valiant Nobusumi. They staged a false internal conflict, and Nagahide's troops, feigning defeat, fled into Nobusumi's defensive area. Nobusumi, trusting Nagahide with whom he had worked on infrastructure projects in Azuchi until the previous day, opened the castle gates. Immediately afterward, Nobutaka's troops poured in. Realizing he had been deceived, Nobusumi barricaded himself in the Senkan-yagura tower in the second bailey of Osaka Castle and waged a desperate defense. However, outnumbered, he was ultimately killed by Niwa retainers, including Ueda Shigeaki (although some accounts say he committed suicide). His head, severed at a young age, was displayed on the outskirts of Sakai. Despite Nobusumi's tragic end, his legacy was passed down to future generations. Todo Takatora, a former direct retainer of Nobusumi and later serving Toyotomi Hidenaga, never forgot his debt of gratitude to his former lord. Takatora worked with Hideyoshi and others to have Nobusumi's son, Masazumi, serve the Toyotomi family, and after the Siege of Osaka, he vehemently pleaded with the Tokugawa family for Masazumi's life, saving it. Thanks to Takatora's compassion, Nobusumi's bloodline continued as a hatamoto (direct retainer) of the Edo shogunate until the end of the Edo period. (From the Taiga drama "Toyotomi Brothers!") In the turbulent era depicted in "[Title of the drama]", Nobusumi's life illustrates the ruthlessness of the Sengoku period, where he was betrayed by his comrades of the day before, all because of his blood relation. However, it also teaches us the warmth of human bonds, as the loyalty he showed to his subordinates saved his family across time...
