Blaise is the future of Rwanda, but he is blind

"I left with a child who was blind and came back with a child who can see. That child is the future of Rwanda." said Blaise’s mother, Redempta. Seven-year-old Blaise was going blind from cataracts in Rwanda, where specialist medical help is scarce. His mother, Redempta, who earns just a dollar a day as a farm worker, worried about his limited future. Why can't children wait? If they are not reached in time, children with low vision may never learn to process signals from their eyes, or might lose that ability. If we are too late, even cataract surgery to restore the function of the eye might not restore the ability to see. The Fred Hollows Foundation is working to clear the cataract backlog in Rwanda.
