Inside Arnol Blackhouse and Shawbost Norse Mill & Kiln | Isle of Lewis

Today we visited the crofting township of Arnol on the west side of the Isle of Lewis to look around a traditional Blackhouse, stepping inside one of the best preserved examples of this unique style of home before heading on to the Norse Mill and Kiln to see how grain was once processed here. We finish the day with a well-earned lunch at the Woodlands Centre in the castle grounds in Stornoway. This video is a little less polished than usual — but that felt fitting somehow. A bit like the blackhouse itself, it’s not perfect, but full of character. You’ll also hear a bit of Gaelic throughout from my mum, just as it would have been heard in homes like these for generations. For info on anything Outer Hebrides, leave a comment and I'll get back to you. This is the island I was born and raised on and live here today. Thanks so much for watching. Ix
