Soft Hackled Wet Flies: Wet flies for Steelhead

I doubt if many people have thought about using upsized Yorkshire wet flies for steelhead. The few early steelhead were smaller fish in the 1 to 2 lb. range that I had caught of streamers. My first big steelhead was caught on a sized 14 Partridge and Orange. I hated the idea of fishing an egg fly under an indicator, so I tied on the fly, added some splitshot above the tippet knot and swung it slowly through a gentle, deep spot near the shore. Almost immediately the fish was on. So much for egg flies. These days I tie these flies in larger sizes for steelhead. I've also caught chinook salmon on these flies as well.
