Meet Aunt Jum, the founder of "Baan Kanom Thai." Meet Aunt Jum, Nanta Hasitawet, 63, the founder of "Baan Kanom Thai." She was a former private teacher before resigning at the age of 40, seeking a career that would last until retirement. Initially, she didn't know what to do, but fortunately, her mother-in-law made Thai desserts, so Aunt Jum decided to learn and help sell them at the market. Her fun turned into a full-time career. Later, when the Poon Bamphen community sought to highlight the area's uniqueness, Aunt Jum proposed her own Thai dessert, which was chosen as the community's signature. Aunt Jum's desserts are extraordinary, featuring rare and auspicious Thai desserts such as Khanom Phak Krong, Khanom Dara Thong, Khanom Thong Ek, and Khanom Sane Chan. In addition to selling them, Aunt Jum also offers workshops, sharing her knowledge with the younger generation to preserve traditional Thai desserts. She believes Thai desserts are as universal as any other, and fears the culture is fading. Teaching dessert making not only creates a career for others, but also brings joy, friendship, and a sense of fulfillment to her post-retirement life.
