The final mountain stage of this year's Tour de France features two of the race's most legendary climbs: the Col du Tourmalet and Luz Ardiden. The Tourmalet, a Pyrenean classic that has been tackled 92 times since its first appearance in 1910, is the first challenge. Riders will face a grueling 17.1 km (11.5 mi) climb to reach the 2,115 m (7,000 ft) summit. With an average gradient of 7.3% and a final third constantly fluctuating between 8% and 10%, this is a killer climb that will shatter the peloton. The few who survive the Tourmalet in the leading group will then face another formidable challenge: the long and fast descent to Luz-Saint-Sauveur.
