In the second episode of our 10-part series celebrating MRDC’s 50-year legacy, we spotlight Sir Melchior (Mel) Togolo, the inaugural General Manager of Ok Tedi Development Company, the organisation that would later become Mineral Resources Development Company Limited (MRDC). Sir Mel is one of Papua New Guinea’s most respected business leaders, with more than five decades of distinguished service across the public and private sectors and the mining and petroleum industries. In 2025, he was honoured with the prestigious Legacy Award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the nation’s resource sector. His leadership and vision were instrumental in MRDC’s early growth and enduring success.
