Japan has always had a reputation for being incredibly safe. You could leave your bag at a café table, forget your wallet somewhere, or pass out after a night out and usually expect everything to still be there. But lately… we’ve been hearing more and more stories coming out of Shinjuku Nichome. Pickpocketing. Wallets being emptied. Phones and laptops disappearing. People being scammed, robbed while drunk, or waking up without their belongings. In this video, we talk about real stories we’ve personally heard, why we think this might be increasing, and some practical tips for staying safe while still enjoying Nichome. This isn’t about fearmongering or saying Japan is suddenly “dangerous.” But we do think people should be more aware than they used to be.
