AYR to STRANRAER Coastal Drive | Electric Brae, Girvan, Turnberry & More | SWC300 E5

SOUTH WEST COASTAL 300 E5: An epic drive along the coast of South West Scotland from Ayr to Stranraer with stops at Electric Brae, Trump Turnberry, Dunure, Girvan & Old Stumpy. ➡️ See all of my SWC300 Road Trip in Scotland here → https://bit.ly/mwt_swc300 Continuing my drive around Scotland’s South West Coastal 300 - one of the lesser visited road trips in the Lowlands of Scotland. After driving for two days I‘ve made it to the coastal section of the route and a road (A77) that follows the beautiful Ayrshire coastline from Ayr to Stranraer. This is a self drive solo road trip that follows a circuit around the Galloway National Forest. My first stop of the day was Dunure, a small fishing village with a 13th century ruined castle and a quaint harbour complete with a row of white cottages previously occupied by fishermen. Just down the road I found and explored the mysterious Electric Brae - a place where you can release your handbrake and watch your car roll uphill. It was historically believed that electrical forces were causing this strange phenomenon but these days there’s a simpler explanation. The road continued with magnificent views along the coastline and out to sea - it really was a pleasure to drive. Before long I was passing by Trump Turnberry Golf Club and decided to park up and go in search of the famous Turnberry Lighthouse which involved walking through the golf course. The lighthouse was a pleasure to see and I was able to walk around to the front which was brightly shining in the sun. After more coastal driving I stopped in the harbour town of Girvan for a walk around the High Street, beach area and park. My main goal however was to find the legendary Old Stumpy! Down at the waterfront the shadow of Ailsa Craig dominates the seascape and there is something very intriguing and fascinating about standing there looking out towards it. Before long I was back on the road and enjoying more of the Scottish South West coastline as I drove towards Cairnryan. I’d say this stretch of the South West Coastal 300 is my favourite so far with incredible ocean passes, winding roads and magnificent views out towards the fiery sky and setting sun.
