The Pixies Of Cornwall And Devon

The Pixies of Cornwall and Devon is a journey into the strange, beautiful, and sometimes unsettling folklore of the West Country a landscape of piskies, pixies, spriggans, knockers, fairy hosts, wandering lights, hidden gardens, moonlit dances, and old places that still feel quietly inhabited. For centuries, Cornwall and Devon have carried stories of the little people: beings not quite good, not quite evil, but deeply bound to the land itself. They guide travellers home, lead others astray, help in the household, punish greed and mockery, guard buried treasure, and vanish into hedges, rocks, caves, mine shafts, and mist. In this film, I explore classic tales from Cornish and Devon folklore, including Joan the Wad and Jack O’ Lantern, the spriggans of Trencrom, Bobby Griglans, the fairy funeral at Lelant, the Cornish knockers, Omfra the pisky, Cherry of Zennor, the Pixies’ Church of Dartmoor, Chudleigh Rocks, Sheepstor, the strange “bundles of rags,” and modern accounts of fairy and pixie sightings. Most of the older tales are drawn from Robert Hunt’s 'Popular Romances of the West of England', first published in 1865 one of the great collections of Cornish and Devonshire folklore. Once you have heard these tales, Cornwall and Devon can never feel entirely ordinary again. Not quite. Not after dark. Not when the wind turns. Not when a path goes strangely wrong beneath your feet. Written, narrated, edited and produced by David Goosey. --- Featuring stories of: Cornish piskies, Devon pixies, Joan the Wad, Jack O’ Lantern, spriggans, knockers, Bobby Griglans, Omfra, Cherry of Zennor, fairy funerals, Dartmoor folklore, Chudleigh Rocks, Sheepstor, and modern fairy sightings. #Cornwall #Devon #Pixies #Piskies #Folklore #CornishFolklore #DevonFolklore #Dartmoor #WestCountry #FairyFolklore #Mythology #FolkHorror #BritishFolklore** CHAPTERS 00:00 Introduction 02:25 Intro song 'Joan The Wad Light On The Moor' 05:12 Joan the Wad and Jack O’ Lantern 08:13 Fairies on the Eastern Green / Spriggans of Trencrom 11:46 Bobby Griglans 14:42 The Fairy Funeral at Lelant 18:17 The Cornish Knockers 19:56 Omfra — The Pisky Who Lost His Laugh 23:00 Cherry of Zennor 28:17 Devon Introduction 29:42 Pixies’ Church / Belfry Rock — The Pixies’ Revenge 33:11 Chudleigh Rocks — Pixy-Led into the Whirling Dance 35:39 Sheepstor — The Pixies’ House and other tales 38:55 Household Help — The Washerwoman’s Surprise 40:12 Bundles of Rags — The Child Decoy 43:12 Devon Closing Reflection 44:15 Modern era sightings 47:22 Conclusion 50:44 outro song 'The Knockers Song'
