Rocket equation with external forces
Deriving the rocket equation for Δv, including the effects of external forces, by considering momentum changes. Although the resulting equation contains an integral that can't be done analytically in general, we finish by deriving an exact expression for Δv in the case of a uniform gravitational field. About me: I studied Physics at the University of Cambridge, then stayed on to get a PhD in Astronomy. During my PhD, I also spent four years teaching Physics undergraduates at the university. Now, I'm working as a private tutor, teaching Physics & Maths up to A Level standard.
