There are so many street cats in Istanbul that all it takes is stroking the head of one of them to become completely addicted. What begins as a simple moment of affection quickly turns into something much deeper. Before you realize it, hours have passed. You find yourself sitting among dozens of furry friends, listening to their silent stories, feeling their trust, and forgetting about the rest of the world. People often admire the cats of Istanbul and see them as part of the city's charm. They photograph them sleeping beneath trees, wandering through historic streets, and resting beside cafés and shops. But behind this beauty lies a painful truth that many people never stop to consider. The cats of Istanbul do not fall from the sky. Many of them are here because someone abandoned them. Every year, countless cats are bought as pets, welcomed into homes, and treated like family. Yet when the excitement fades, many are left behind. Some are abandoned in parks, some on busy streets, and others in places where they have little chance of surviving on their own. Despite everything they have been through, these cats continue to trust people. They still approach with hope in their eyes. They still seek affection. They still choose love over fear, even after being abandoned by the people they once depended on. That is why I made them a promise. I promised these cats that I would never abandon them. Not tomorrow. Not next year. Not for as long as I am breathing. If they have no family, I will be their family. If they have no owner, my heart will belong to them. Every day, I walk through the streets carrying food, kindness, and compassion. I know many of these cats by name. I know their personalities, their favorite places to rest, and the challenges they face. They are not just street cats to me. They are my friends, my family, and a part of my life. In return, they give me something more valuable than anything money could ever buy. They give me trust. They give me friendship. They give me the purest love I have ever known.
