Acetato de etila em removedores de esmalte - Composição, análise e separação

We present a method for determining the amount of ethyl acetate present in "acetone-free" nail polish removers. 0:00 Introduction 06:09 Initial Density 7:58 Distillation 13:10 Extraction with Saturated Solution 20:31 Drying 20:59 Results This material may be useful in practical laboratory classes for chemistry or applied science courses, or as supplementary teaching material for understanding certain experimental procedures. The method presented consists of separating a complex mixture using 3 techniques/concepts: Fractional distillation: For separating the solvents; Liquid-liquid extraction using saturated sodium chloride solution and saturated sodium bicarbonate solution: For removing ethanol; Drying of ethyl acetate using sodium sulfate as a drying agent: For removing water; For these reasons, we have verified that all nail polish removers comply with Brazilian legislation, which allows a maximum content of 60% w/w of ethyl acetate in products exempt from control and inspection, so that they are not in the category of controlled chemical products, as presented in "LIST II" of ANNEX I, presented in Law No. 10,357, of December 27, 2001, and Decree No. 4,262, of June 10, 2002. We are leaving a copy here for consultation, remembering that legislation may be changed; ideally, you should always consult an updated source. Density of FARMAX remover at 20°C: Before: 0.8684 g cm-3 After distillation: 0.8557 g cm-3 After extraction and drying: 0.900 g cm-3 Final mass and yield: 193.3 g of a total of 441 g (43.84%) Final volume obtained (at 20°C): 214.8 mL Density of IDEAL remover at 20°C: Before: 0.8579 g cm-3 After distillation: 0.8592 g cm-3 After extraction and drying: 0.901 g cm-3 Final mass and yield: 196.0 g of a total of 428 g (45.79%) Final volume obtained: 217.5 mL Density of REPÓS remover at 20°C: Before: 0.8453 g cm-3 After distillation: 0.8400 g cm-3 [Lost dye and most of the banana oil, increasing the concentration of ethanol and ethyl acetate] After extraction and drying: 0.899 g cm-3 Final mass and yield: 112.9 g of a total of 425 g (26.56%) Final volume obtained: 125.6 mL Density of MUSA remover at 20°C: Before: 0.8446 g cm-3 After distillation: 0.8449 g cm-3 [Practically [Unchanged, the minimum loss was of some oils and essences] After extraction and drying: 0.899 g cm-3 Final mass and yield: 127.5 g out of a total of 418 g (30.38%) Final volume obtained: 141.8 mL We detected a subtle trace of perfume in the product obtained from the FARMAX removers (slight grape odor, possibly traces of methyl anthranilate) and REPÓS (slight banana odor, traces of isoamyl acetate). Materials used: Separating funnel; Acetone-free nail polish removers, 500 mL size; Sodium bicarbonate; Commercial sodium chloride; Distillation apparatus; Anhydrous sodium sulfate; Polyethylene bottle; 10 mL pycnometer; Digital probe thermometer; Universal laboratory support and fixing ring; Erlenmeyer flask and beaker; Music: Journey in the New World by Twin Musicom (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/...)
