How to replace Ignition Switch on R50 Mini Cooper and stop the Wipers from running on on their own
This Video explains how to replace the Ignition Switch on R50 Mini Cooper. As mentioned during the Video, the reason why the Ignition Switch needed to be replaced was because the Car wouldn't start. But prior to that, the vehicle had developed a strange problem; the Windshield Wipers would start working on their own and they wouldn't turn off till the Vehicle was stopped and the Ignition Switch was turned to the Off Position. Sometimes the Wipers would turn on as soon as the Ignition Switch was turned to the On Position, either just the Front Wipers or Front and Rear at times. Extremely annoying situation, and embarrassing to be driving on a clear day with all the Windshield Wipers going at full speed for no reason. At that point there were 2 Options: 1- Baptize the car by the name "Herby" and paint the Number 53 on the Doors with racing Stripes and live with the problem or... 2-Repair the problem so the car doesn't act like it has a mind of its own. As previously mentioned, while researching the issue, it appeared that it is not the Body Control Module that is the cause of the problem but a Faulty Ignition Switch. A week later: No remaining issues with the Wipers, the Ignition Switch was the cause of the Windshield Wipers turning on by themselves and why they would run all the time and wouldn't turn off.
