A Footplate journey on the Lakeside Branch in 1965
Charles Maher shot this Standard 8mm cine film of the Lakeside branch in the late summer of 1965 just prior to Lakeside station closing to passenger traffic. He rode on the footplate of Black 5 No. 45227 light engine from Carnforth to Lakeside with driver Taffy Owen and fireman Brian Dowthwaite. This film shows the journey from Plumpton Junction up the branch to Lakeside. Here they collected the carriage stock for the return journey special train 'Lake Windermere Cruise'. At Lakeside, Ivatt mogul 46441 arrives and departs with a passenger branch train just as it will again in 2024.
