Early Childhood Development (ECD) is the foundation of a child’s lifelong growth, beginning from birth and extending to around eight years old. The earliest years especially the first five are critical as the brain develops rapidly and children require a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment to thrive. In this discussion, we explore the importance of supporting children through proper nutrition, care, emotional support, and meaningful engagement. The Rights of the Child Commission continues to play a vital role in promoting safe early childhood institutions and protecting the rights and well-being of children across Guyana. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to understand developmental milestones and seek early intervention when needed. Simple daily actions such as talking, reading, and playing with children can significantly strengthen their cognitive and emotional development. The first 1,000 days from conception are especially important in shaping a child’s future health and development.
