Jumbo Rocks Campgrounds is in the higher elevations of Joshua Tree Park. It's set amongst the monzogranite landscape Joshua Tree is best known for. We spent several nights here in June, which is outside of the busy season as it starts to get hot. The nights got into the 60's, so it was actually not uncomfortable. The gist of this campground is, try to get one of the standalone (non-walk-in campsites) if you can, if you desire the best privacy. As you can see from the sites that are grouped together (walk-in tent sites), of which there are many), some of them are extremely close to one another. There are of course exceptions, and unfortunately, you may not be able to discern from this video where the actual sites are. We walked around and some of them are pretty neat and tucked away near the boulders. Many sites have shrubs to help create privacy and block sight lines to neighbors, even though the sites are sometimes just feet apart. We did not have any issues during our stay and it was quiet and pleasant, but we could see how if you get a rowdy neighbor, you may have a less than pleasant stay. Your best bet... watch the video and try to discern which sites stand alone away from others. You may not have a choice when you book, but if you do, keep an eye out as there are a few excellent sites here. I'd also try to keep your distance from the vault toilets, as for whatever reason, the ones at Joshua Tree smell pretty ripe at times (not the insides, but outside where the exhaust blows). We caught whiffs from our site (118) throughout the stay. Best bet... distance yourself from those stinky toilets!
