ОБРЕЗКА РОЗ ПОСЛЕ ПЕРВОГО ЦВЕТЕНИЯ.
Good morning! 🌞 We can't wait any longer, so it's time to tell you again about pruning roses in the summer after flowering. Why am I telling you this now? - some southerners might rightfully ask. It's because the Moscow region has only recently experienced a wave of rose blooms. And my roses live in the Moscow region, so I'm using that as an example. Why do we prune roses? It's for aesthetics, of course. Faded roses aren't very pretty. But the main thing is that this pruning stimulates the next wave of rose blooms. How to prune roses in the summer after flowering Let me start by saying that many roses bloom in clusters. And if a flower in a cluster has faded, it's best to remove it by trimming the stem. You can, of course, wait until the entire cluster has finished blooming, but then the rose blooms won't be as spectacular. Moreover, fallen rose petals on the ground in a rose garden will not be beneficial, but will instead promote the growth of unnecessary pathogens. Now for the most interesting part. ✔️Pruning to half a shoot after the first bloom is suitable for roses of the following groups: floribundas, hybrid tea roses, miniature roses, and spray roses. ✔️D. Austin roses ("Austin roses"), groundcover roses, shrub roses, and climbers (climbers) are best pruned slightly differently: to 1/3 of the shoot's top after blooming. ✔️For ramblers (climbing roses), prune only the faded cluster or remove completely faded shoots. Why do we prune so heavily in many rose groups – to half a shoot? A rose will most quickly send up a new shoot from a bud closest to the pruning site. And the thicker the base of the shoot at the pruning point, the stronger the new shoot will be, growing from the bud at the pruning point. The flower, therefore, will only benefit from this. For complete rose gardening novices, here's another paragraph: The cut on the shoot is made ABOVE the rose leaf, at a height of 0.5 cm. If the cut is less than 0.5 cm, the bud may die, and if it's more than 0.5 cm, the edge of the shoot will dry out or turn black. I used to make the cut at a 45-degree angle on the shoot. Well, that's just the way it's done in general gardening. But now I understand that gardening is gardening, and we're talking about roses. Roses can be given a straight cut without any slant or angle. And it's easier this way: you don't need to aim for that angle. It's not the cross-sectional area of the shoot where, supposedly, raindrops can be so critically trapped that the rose will suffer. Not at all. And yes: please ensure the cut on the shoot is smooth and doesn't tear the bark (to prevent infection from entering the wound). For this, you'll need sharp pruning shears. A video about pruning shears will be coming soon, as not every pruning shear is suitable for roses, as the shoot structure is different from, say, apple or raspberry. What you'll need to help prune roses after flowering: 1. Sharp pruning shears – a must for rose growers; 2. A product for treating pruning shears (I use either regular hydrogen peroxide or chlorhexidine), or... vodka (yes, that happened once). Note: try to treat your tools after working with each rose bush. 3. It really takes courage. It's not easy for beginners to immediately grasp the principle of pruning faded roses. I was like that myself: with trembling hands, I pruned a faded rose bush for the first time, not really understanding what to do or how. Until I stumbled upon a method I then called the "rule of four." And one more thing: I often say that roses are wise plants. Some rose varieties will tell you where to cut: sometimes, even before the rose has finished blooming, new shoots are already sprouting from its axils. So be brave. Even if you make a mistake, roses will understand, forgive, and not die.
