This Video was recorded on 11 February 2025 as part of the MCQST Colloquium which takes place at ‪@maxplanckquantum‬ Equitable access and success in higher education across the world: The universal problem Inequalities in access and success in higher education are universal across all higher education systems in the world. As the world becomes increasingly politically polarised, this lecture will consider why making higher education more accessible to different groups is an imperative for universities, society and the field of society and technology. Drawing on research undertaken across the world into equity, diversity and inclusion in higher education Professor Atherton will show what inequality in higher education looks like and how it can be addressed. About Graeme Atherton Professor Graeme Atherton is one of the world's leading authorities on equitable access and success in higher education. He founded and leads the NEON which is the professional organisation for higher education access & equity in the UK with over 100 universities as members. In 2018 he led on formation of World Access to Higher Education Day which reached over 1000 organizations from over 100 countries up to 2022. He also leads the new World Access to Higher Education Network (WAHEN) launched in December 2024 and supported by a range of organisations including the World Bank, Asia Europe Foundation and UNESCO. He has undertaken research for UNESCO, the World Bank, European Commission, British Council and the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). He represents the United Kingdom on the European Higher Education Area Bologna Social Dimension Working Group, has spoken in over 20 countries and holds Visiting Professorships in universities in 3 different countries. === The MCQST Colloquium Series features interdisciplinary talks given by visiting international speakers. The monthly colloquium covers topics spanning all MCQST research units and is broadcasted live via Zoom for audiences worldwide.
