Leading with Love and Joy | Culture, Community, and Classical Music | SphinxConnect
How can love, joy, and cultural identity shape the future of classical music? In this interactive SphinxConnect session, members of Quinteto Latino share two decades of experience championing Latino and Latin American composers while creating meaningful connections through performance, conversation, and community. Featuring Armando Castellano, Diane Grubbe, Jamael Smith, Leslie Tagorda, and Kyle Bruckmann, the workshop explores how artists can lead with authenticity, share power, and create spaces where culture and identity are celebrated. Interwoven throughout the session are performances of works by composers including Gabriela Ortiz, Gabriela Lena Frank, Tania León, and Manuel Ponce, illustrating the ensemble’s commitment to expanding the chamber music repertoire. Topics include: • Building community through music and shared identity • Leading with love, joy, and cultural pride • Programming music that reflects diverse experiences • Supporting emerging artists through mentorship and fellowship • Creating inclusive spaces that inspire belonging and collaboration This session is part of SphinxConnect, Sphinx’s annual convening bringing together artists, leaders, educators, and cultural thinkers to explore the future of the arts. ℹ️ Learn more at sphinxconnect.org ⬅️ #SphinxConnect #QuintetoLatino #ChamberMusic #LatinoComposers #ClassicalMusic #ArtsLeadership #CommunityThroughMusic --------------------------------------------------------------- About Sphinx Organization The Sphinx Organization is dedicated to transforming lives through the power of the arts and has reached more than 100 million people worldwide. Focused on increasing representation in classical music and celebrating excellence, Sphinx programs serve beginner students, seasoned classical music professionals, cultural entrepreneurs, and artistic administrators by addressing the systemic lack of access within Black and Latino communities. Based in Detroit, Michigan, with global reach, Sphinx envisions a day where every young person has the opportunity to express themselves and learn classical music, where audiences reflect the people we see on our streets, and where leadership – on stage and off – includes all deserving voices. We are working toward a future in which our art form reflects our greater society. ℹ️ Learn more at www.SphinxMusic.org ⬅️
