Every major advance in medicine has brought forth important new ethical questions. But too often, questions of health equity have been brushed aside. In other cases, the right tools and frameworks weren’t available. The routine use of AI methods in healthcare may stimulate one of the most substantial changes in our healthcare system and medical practice. We must ensure that this change does not harm critical progress in reducing inequities. By attending this program, you will: -Gain a better understanding of industry dynamics shaping AI in Healthcare -Realize physician perspectives and sentiments -Acknowledge the parameters and stakes in getting ethics and equity right for healthcare AI Speakers Moderator: Fernando De Maio, PhD - is Vice President of Health Equity Research and Data Use at the American Medical Association, and a Professor of Sociology at DePaul University, and Fellow and Director on the Board of Governors, Institute of Medicine of Chicago. Dr. De Maio teaches social epidemiology in the Master of Public Health program at DePaul University. He has published widely in the area of health equity. Among his recent works are two books, Community Health Equity: A Chicago Reader with the University of Chicago Press and Unequal Cities: Structural Racism and the Death Gap with the Johns Hopkins University Press. He is a Fellow of IOMC and a board member of IOMC. Speaker: Christopher Khoury, MS, MBA - Vice President Strategic Insights, American Medical Association. Christopher Khoury is vice president of strategic insights at the American Medical Association (AMA). The unit comprises a diverse team of researchers, analysts, and business professionals focused on assessing and interacting with emerging elements across health care, technology, and policy sectors. He has worked in the healthcare sector for over 22 years. Christopher received his MBA from The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business magna cum laude. He also holds a BS/MS from the University of Illinois in Electrical and Computer Engineering and an MS in biomedical engineering from the University of Wisconsin.
