And I suddenly got it for me that I wanted to pair Rex with Mel. Story: Melanie Layton is the daughter of Carly Manning and Steven Layton. Carly married Steven after she got divorced from Lawrence, and they had Mel. Steven died when Melanie was 15, when Mel finished high school she went to college where she met Rex.
