Founded in 1967, it is 58 years old and has a super humid subtropical climate with an average annual temperature of 19 degrees Celsius. The vegetation in the municipality of Matinhos is predominantly Atlantic Forest, with stretches of restinga (coastal scrubland) along its coastal strip.
