OpenTX Heli Programming Pt 4 - Helis requiring CCMP in the transmitter
This is part of four of my series on helicopter programming for OpenTX. Part 1 just discussed the different types of helicopters, with respect to transmitter control, so that, hopefully, you could use that to decide what kind of programming was required for the particular heli you are dealing with. Part 2 covered OpenTX programming for the most common type of helicopter found these days, i.e. flybarless helicopters with an onboard flight control, which allow direct control of pitch from the transmitter. Part 3 covered programming for flybarless helicopters with an onboard flight controller not allowing direct control of pitch from the transmitter (basically WLToys). This fourth part covers programming for the older, more traditional type of helicopter requiring CCMP mixing in the transmitter. This type of helicopter does not have an onboard flight controller - there will be a receiver onboard, and each of the cyclic servos will be connected directly to one channel of that receiver. Thus we need to derive in the transmitter the exact value that will be passed to each cyclic servo, which means that in the transmitter we need to mix the inputs commanding tilt (lateral and longitudinal cyclic input) and the inputs commanding pitch change (collective) - hence Cyclic Collective Mix Programming. This is done in OpenTX by using the Heli page, which takes in the inputs for lateral and longitudinal cyclic and for collective, and creates three values (CYC1, CYC2 and CYC3) which are then used (via the Mixes page) to drive the cyclic servos. As you will see in this video, I have a bit of a problem with OpenTX with respect to this kind of programming... it seems to me that OpenTX does not behave as it should when taking in the inputs for lateral and longitudinal cyclic and using them to calculate the cyclic servo values. It seems that OpenTX ignores any parameters you define for the cyclic inputs on the Inputs page, and just drives the output CYC values based on the raw stick values - which creates a problem if you want to create switchable rates for your lateral and logitudinal stick input. Anyway, please watch this video, and if you have a solution to this rates issue, please let me know... FOLLOW-UP VIDEO NOW POSTED: Please check out Part 5, which I have now added, clarifying the cause of issues, and giving much better work arounds: • OpenTX Heli Programming Pt 5 - CCMP work a...
