Freezing Cold Can’t Stop the Walk for Peace

Thousands gathered at the North Carolina State Capitol in Raleigh to welcome Buddhist monks on their historic 2,300-mile Walk for Peace from Texas to Washington, D.C. This powerful gathering marked Day 91 of the journey. Despite extreme freezing cold conditions, the monks and supporters stood firm, demonstrating unshakable determination, mindfulness, and compassion. In official recognition of this historic moment, North Carolina Governor Josh Stein proclaimed January 24, 2026, as “Walk For Peace Day,” while Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell welcomed the monks to the capital city. Despite the most difficult and overwhelming circumstances, the boundless determination and mental fortitude of Buddhist monks have amazed the world. As tens of thousands of people join in day after day, the hope for peace has turned to tears.
