NALC Heroes of the Year Awards

At the NALC Heroes of the Year Awards luncheon in Washington on March 25, NALC President Brian L. Renfroe recognized nine letter carriers whose acts of courage and compassion were published in The Postal Record over the course of 2025, a tradition dating to 1974. "There's really no other people across America that know all of our communities like letter carriers do," Renfroe said. "We know when something is not right and are often in a position to be the first to step up." Renfroe individually invited each honoree to the stage to discuss their stories, which included helping people in medical distress, intervening in crimes and fires, and looking out for lost children. Each received an award certificate and lapel pin. This year's honorees were: • National Hero of the Year: Christopher Perez, Westchester, N.Y., Merged Branch 693 • Eastern Region Hero: Kyle Quillen, Camden, N.J., Merged Branch 540 • Central Region Hero: Sydney Billingsley, Dayton, Ohio, Branch 182 • Western Region Hero: Jairo Lopez, Oklahoma City Branch 458 • Humanitarian of the Year: Meagan Murray, Waterloo, Iowa, Branch 512 • Honorable Act: Alexander Skomra, Buffalo-Western New York Branch 3, and Tiffany McCarty, Wichita, Kan., Branch 201 • The Vigilant Award: Theodore May, Buffalo-Western New York Branch 3, and Rafael Pozo, Arlington Heights, Ill., Branch 2810 Renfroe noted that the annual ceremony is a reminder that letter carriers' service extends well beyond delivering the mail.
