If you have lower back pain caused by an injury, you need to learn to cope with it and accept it. After injuring his lower back at 21, Brendan refused to accept that lower back pain was something he had to deal with. The culture surrounding the lower back dictates that it should be protected, not built or rebuilt. Brendan quickly learned that no technique or lifestyle is safe enough to protect the lower back from injury or re-injury. The standard approach is to protect the lower back with the core. Conservative treatment for spinal injuries focuses on everything in the core except the lower back. With this approach, many people become more sensitive, vulnerable, and weak after a lower back injury. Brendan has developed a program to help people slowly and safely develop a strong back. He emphasizes the importance of rebuilding slowly and viewing recovery as a dial rather than a light switch. Brendan teaches people to reconnect with their lower back. Brendan's technique not only strengthens the lower back muscles, but also increases blood circulation to the spine, stretches the fascia, and reduces friction around the nerves. Brendan explains that sciatica can be difficult to resolve, but it's not impossible. He focuses on slowly strengthening the muscles along the sciatic nerve. The problem became so severe that it affected his entire body. Brendan continues to perform traditional lifts like squats, but never neglects his lower back.
