Five-time Best Nine and seven-time Golden Glove Award winner. Selected for the Japanese national team at the 2013 World Baseball Classic and won the Best Nine award. He transferred to the Giants in 2014 and retired at the end of 2015. In 2021, he served as the infield defensive coach for Samurai Japan, contributing to their gold medal win at the Tokyo Olympics. He currently serves as the manager of the Samurai Japan U-12 team and coaches the NTT East Japan baseball team. He played in 1,896 games, batting .281 with 1,912 hits, 56 home runs, 410 RBIs, and 149 stolen bases.
