ONLY FLYING Bf 109 E-4 in Europe Shuttleworth Festival of Flight 2026

ONLY FLYING Bf 109 E-4 in Europe Shuttleworth Festival of Flight 2026 Filmed today at Shuttleworth's Festival of Flight 2026 — the UK air show debut of "Red 12," a Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4, Werknummer 1983. Originally flown by 5./JG 5 on the Eastern Front, shot down 24 January 1942 near Titovka, close to Murmansk, in combat against Soviet Hurricanes. The wreck was recovered in 1993. Owned by German collector Eberhard Thiesen, registered D-FEML. Restoration: fuselage, tail, cowlings and cockpit rebuilt in Essex by Craig Charleston; wings restored by Hartmair Leichtbau in Freising, Bavaria. The aircraft had been converted during the war to E-7 standard (centreline drop tank/bomb capability) but has been restored back to its original E-4 configuration. First post-restoration flight: 19 June 2023, Bonn-Hangelar, flown by Charlie Brown. Today was its first UK air show appearance. This one still has its original Daimler-Benz DB 601 engine — the inverted V12 that powered the real Emils over the Channel in 1940. Most "flying" Bf 109s you'll see at shows these days are actually Spanish-built Buchóns fitted with Rolls-Royce Merlins, so the engine note is nothing like the real thing. Genuine DB 601 sound in the air is extremely rare. #Bf109 #Shuttleworth #DB601 #WW2Aviation Help support the work of Warbird Owners, restorers and Aviation Museums with great, fresh roasted coffee from The Warbird Coffee Company https://www.warbirdcoffeecompany.co.uk Follow The Warbird Coffee Company On: Facebook:   / warbirdcoffee   Instagram:   / warbirdcoffee
