Klon clone shootout | Cheap to expensive | Wampler vs EHX vs TC Electronic vs NUX vs Flattley!

Today we’re comparing five Klon Centaur clones from my collection: the Wampler Tumnus Germanium, the Electro-Harmonix Soul Food, the TC Electronic Zeus, the NUX Horseman, and the Flattley Centurion! ----- Get (some of!) these pedals at Thomann: https://thmn.to/thocf/v938r1vcc4 At Sweetwater: https://sweetwater.sjv.io/rQKje5 ----- The Klon Centaur has become one of the most iconic pedals of the guitar world. Famed for its transparent overdrive tones and its stacking-friendly nature, it’s become a staple of pedalboards everywhere, helped by the likes of John Mayer being a huge fan, of course. As a result, prices for original Klons have gone through the roof – you can expect to pay over $5,000 for one these days – but most pedal builders these days make their own take on a Klon, and these so-called klones come in all shaped, sizes and prices. Today, we’re looking at five of my favorites. The Wampler Tumnus Germanium is the most recent, and adds some Germanium goodness to the standard Tumnus recipe. Small, simple and awesome sounding, the Tumnus (the standard will set you back around $150/€150) is a great choice and has sort of become of the new standard for Klon clones. Next up is the EHX Soul Food, which is probably found on even more boards than the Tumnus! At around $80/€100, the Soul Food is a tone sweetener in every respect, and friendly on the wallet too – but it’s not the cheapest klone in today’s shootout. That honor goes to the NUX Horseman, which – for around $59/€59 – gives you two Klon flavors (Gold and the more aggressive Silver) in one mini pedal enclosure. The TC Electronic Zeus is also very affordable, coming in at around $79/€75, and it features a Fat switch that boosts your bottom end when needed. Last on the list is a custom Flattley Centurion. Made in the UK and coming in at around $300/€300, it’s definitely a boutique take on the Klon circuit. You can find out more about the Centurion here: https://flattleyguitarpedals.com/prod... So, while all these pedals are takes on the famous Klon circuit, they’re all going to sound just a little different… so hopefully this video will help you decide which might work best in your rig! In this video I play a nice indie rock loop (on my Fender Telecaster’s bridge single coil pickup) which I use to really tweak the knobs of all five pedals to hear how they compare. Let me know which one you think sounds best in the comments! That’s it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Oh, and I used my Boss RC-10R to record and play the loop.
