At the end of November, the city hall of Maceió declared a state of emergency due to the possibility of a collapse in one of the rock salt mines exploited by Braskem. Since 2018, subsidence has been recorded in five neighborhoods, and about 60,000 people have had to leave their homes. Braskem confirmed the possibility of a major collapse in the area and expanded the risk map. Maceió's Civil Defense is monitoring the area.
