Dog Breed Video: Afghan Hound

Lesley Busby has been breeding and judging Afghan Hounds since the 1970s and is the Secretary of The Southern Afghan Club. Afghans come in a surprising range of colours and all are allowed. Lesley tells us some of the breed features that are typical. They were originally bred for hunting. Built on fairly similar lines to the Greyhound, they love to run and Afghan racing is a popular hobby. As you'd expect, they need a lot of exercise and, with a coat as impressive as theirs, they need a lot of grooming too. The Afghan has changed little over many years so the breed remains strong and healthy but they can be quite a lot of work so it's a good idea to do plenty of homework before embarking on owning one.
